I was refering to the 6th episode (next week). When I wrote that I already watched this week episode. Yeah, just realized that episode 5 was out. I'm still a failure as a Fate/Stay Night fan apparently. Indeed, the Archer Vs. Caster and Saber Vs. Assassin fights should be next. Both are ones I'm heavily looking forward to. Both are ones that were heavily butchered by Deen (more than usual even). Yeah, but before that: Shinji will activate the field in the school and in the VN, people faces are melting and etc etc... And Rider will be decapitated.

It appears that ufotable has either skipped Rider's death for now or they're changing the plot even further (or I'm misremembering the order of events). It also appears we shall have to wait another week for the Assassin VS Saber and Archer VS Caster fights. I am the disappoint.
Also, judging solely by Shirou's response when Saber asked if the truce with Rin would last only as long as until the third master was defeated, it appears that the Anime is heading towards the Unlimited Blade Works Good End.
My sole reason for this assumption is within the VN that conversation has a choice in it which allows you to choose between telling Saber that the Truce will only last until the third master is defeated, or telling Saber that you're not certain if the Truce will end at that point.
The first option (which is the one which appears in the anime) gains points with Saber and moves the Route towards the Good End while the second option earns points with Rin and moves the Route towards the Normal End.

Yeah, I also thought the Rider incident was before Caster incident :\
But at least we know what is coming down next week. If it was another studio, I would be disapointed because I prefer plot advancement instead of one full episode dedicated to one fight, but Ufotable has a way to make me excited for fight scenes. (Well, they did just turn the 2 most boring fight scenes of the VN (Lancer vs Saber and Lancer vs Archer) into epic fight scenes.
I didn't catch that about the option, good memory. Indeed, they are definetly going for the Good End. I suspected since episode 01 because of the intro, but now because of some moments in this new episode (saber standing closer to Shirou in the shed) and of what you said, it's almost confirmed they are going for it.
And it makes sense, the True End was already covered in the movie.

Bit late on the comments for this weeks episode, but who cares right? I was actually a bit disappointed with this weeks episode. The fights were far to short. If ufotable managed to make one of the worst fights in the series (the first Archer Vs Lancer fight) very epic and fairly lengthy they should have been able to do far more with Archer Vs Caster and Saber Vs Assassin. This episode also left me mildly annoyed about another inaccurately represented Noble Phantasm. (Feel free to stop reading here if you don't want to hear me bitch about Type-Moon lore) This weeks inaccurately represented Noble Phantasm was the Legendary Sasaki Kojirou's famous sword technique: Tsubame Gaeshi In ufotable's adaptation they have our dear False Assassin descend from his high-ground position in order to combat Saber on even ground. ...Only that doesn't happen in the visual novel... and it doesn't happen for a good reason. You see, in order for that troublesome thing known as "The Plot" to advance... Saber kinda has to survive the fight with Assassin. In order to survive the fight with Assassin, Saber needs to survive Tsubame Gaeshi. In order to survive Tsubame Gaeshi, Saber must dodge it. But Tsubame Gaeshi is pretty much impossible to dodge... that's kinda it's central premise. Sasaki Kojirou wanted to be able to create an undodgeable attack that would allow him to kill a Swallow in flight. The one time Tsubame Gaeshi can be dodged... is if it is performed without all the necessary prerequisites met. Namely, it can be dodged if it is not performed on flat ground. The way Tsubame Gaeshi works, is that without a balanced stance on flat ground all three strikes cannot be performed. Such as can be seen here... With only two of the necessary strikes, Tsubame Gaeshi does not fully entrap it's opponent making it possible to dodge. In the VN during Saber and False Assassin's first fight in the Unlimited Blade Works route, that is more or less what occurs. Assassin does not descend from his high-ground, and so can only perform two of the three strikes. Because of this, Saber is able to dodge and live. If what had occurred in the ufotable adaptation had occurred according to the rules of Tsubame Gaeshi, this would have happened. All three strikes would have been completed, Saber would have been unable to dodge, and likely would have been decapitated and then I'd likely never see Saber's scarf. I'm not digging how ufotable doesn't seem to be getting the nuances of the Noble Phantasm's down. Currently Saber has no explanation for how she managed to dodge three simultaneous attacks. She just does. And because of it, Tsubame Gaeshi doesn't seem impressive at all. Though now that my rant is over, I'd like to add one last thing. I did like how ufotable represented Saber's Instinct Personal Skill.

I was going to comment Sunday but while I was writing my pc blue screened. -_- Didn't have the patience to write again. Oh well.
Glad to know I wasn't the only one who thought that they +/- rushed things in this episode. Well, we have to admit there wasn't much of a fight for them to animate, archer mostly avoided caster attacks and KO'ed her with only one attack (and it was beautiful to watch, despite the rush), Saber and Assassin fight wasn't that special either even in the VN, he was always on upper level so they didn't have freedom to animate them jumping around like Archer v Lancer. And they had to make everything fit into 20 minutes and that's probably what made this episode feel so rushed, pity they couldn't make 30 minutes episode because IMO Shirou, Archer and Caster conversation deserved more focus.
(I read your rant btw :3 ) My guess is that animating his Noble Phantasm in high-ground would be "awkward". Try to imagine him performing TG from high ground AND maintaining a cool posture. Ufotable probably wants assassin to be a badass character so they need him not to make awkward or stupid posture/face/etc... (imagine if Kotomine made a stupid face in F/Z, it would completely destroy his image, and we know how coolness is very important in this kind of anime)
Or maybe they just wanted to show how Saber is so badass that she can avoid pretty much any unavoidable noble phantasm.
PS: Btw, did you play Fate/Hollow Ataraxia? The translation is pretty much finished and they are going to release (or already released for all I know) and I am curious about it. Is it a parody (a la Carnival Phantasm) or is it serious? Is Shirou still the protagonist? Does it have routes?

Is it a parody (a la Carnival Phantasm) or is it serious? Is Shirou still the protagonist? Does it have routes? I've played halfway through Fate/Hollow Ataraxia. It is a serious story (for the most part). Shirou is still the protagonist... mostly (you've already stepped onto a landmine and a major spoiler with that question so... good job?). And it technically has routes... but the story is pretty much linear in that you have to finish everything to move on. A word of warning if you do decide to play it. Fate/Hollow Ataraxia is very confusing when you start to play it. And it's even more confusing (albeit in a different way) once you figure out the plot twists. It's absolutely nothing like Fate/Stay Night. Though, on the bright side, you finally get to meet and speak to Caren Ortensia. Kotomine Kirei's long lost daughter (whom he has very mixed feelings about). You might have already seen her if you watched Carnival Phantasm, but if you haven't... imagine Kotomine if he was still absolutely sadistic, but was a guy who really desired to help others underneath it.

There's not much to say about this week episode. I'm just glad that they didn't forget to show how Shirou remains calm near motionless bodies.

There's not much to say about this week episode. I'm just glad that they didn't forget to show how Shirou remains calm near motionless bodies. That is sort of a central plot-point so if they didn't show it that would be pretty bad. Really, the entire Unlimited Blade Works Route is just build up to the "Your Distortion" scene in the Einzbern Mansion... then it's buildup to the fight with Archer... then it's buildup to the fight with Goldie-kun. I was interested in the bit at the beginning of the episode. Where Shirou is standing atop his usual Hill of Blades, his arm itself turns into blades. Which is interesting because that only happens in a few situations for Shirou. 1. When he Over-Reinforces himself, his body begins to sprout swords from wherever he is reinforcing. 2. When he is seriously wounded, his body sprouts swords over the wound. 3. In the Heaven's Feel route, his body starts being eaten away by swords as Archer's spiritually attached arm slowly kills him. ...So in short, I'm just interested in that specific alteration of the dream and what it could mean for the future. Also, taken straight from the Nyaatorrents chatbox: Oh man...

Now that you mention it, that dream didn't happen in the VN, did it?
And lol, LordU has good senses. I don't remember right, but I think I started suspecting Archer identity after Caster incident. When did you start suspecting?

When did you start suspecting? I started suspecting around the Archer Vs Berserker fight from the Fate route. I thought their abilities were strangely similar. My thoughts for this weeks episode should be pretty apparent. Mostly good, but I still have minor complaints regarding the representation of Type-Moon lore (in this case, Kozuki's martial style) and the fights seemed far too short once again. This time they even had some pretty decent material to work with, so I'm saddened that the fights seem to keep getting shorter. Facial expressions are still fantastic though. Like This. Or This

On the other hand, I read a youtube comment that the first half of the anime ends at episode 12 and that episode will be 1 hour long.

good point about this episode: - loved some facial expressions, especially Rin;
Dissapointed point: - Didn't use Ever Present Feeling from the VN. Didn't need to be the exact same track, they could have made their own adaptation (like Sword of Promised Victory). Here's hoping they use it later, especially here:
And if the youtube comment I read was correct, next week episode will be 1 hour long.

11 episodes in and I still can't believe the art quality of this Anime. I want the Bluray but something tells me that I won't be able to afford it.
